In a significant breakthrough for India’s poultry sector, global animal health leader Boehringer Ingelheim has launched a next-generation, single-dose vaccine that provides simultaneous protection against three major poultry diseases—Marek’s Disease, Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD), and Newcastle Disease (ND).
This innovative vaccine, which can be administered at the hatchery either in ovo or subcutaneously to day-old chicks, offers early, long-lasting immunity. The solution is expected to streamline disease prevention practices across India’s poultry farms, improving bird health and reducing the operational burden on farmers.
“Poultry plays a vital role in India’s food supply chain and rural economy. Yet, disease outbreaks continue to threaten productivity and profitability,” Boehringer Ingelheim said in a statement. “Our vaccine simplifies protection by minimizing field vaccinations, reducing labor, and lowering stress on birds.”
The vaccine is designed to cater to broilers, layers, and breeders, making it a versatile tool for a range of poultry operations. Experts say this will significantly reduce the need for multiple booster shots and lower dependency on antibiotics, supporting safer and more sustainable poultry farming.
Dr. Vinod Gopal, Country Head – Animal Health, Boehringer Ingelheim India, emphasized that the vaccine aligns with the company’s mission of “science-led and farmer-focused” innovation. “By bringing this solution to India, we aim to improve productivity while supporting the wellbeing of poultry and farm workers alike,” he said.
Dr. K. S. Prajapati, former Head of Veterinary Pathology at Anand Agricultural University, hailed the vaccine as a timely intervention. “This triple protection addresses critical gaps in flock immunity and helps reduce the risk of economic loss due to outbreaks,” he said.
With poultry diseases evolving and farm-scale biosecurity becoming increasingly important, this vaccine is poised to be a game-changer—enhancing flock performance while simplifying vaccination protocols.
