In a major push to strengthen Jammu & Kashmir’s poultry infrastructure, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Departments, Javid Ahmad Dar, on Monday laid the foundation stone for Layer House–II at the Poultry Project, Hariparbat. He was joined by MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, during the ceremony.
During his visit, the Minister conducted a comprehensive review of the poultry sector’s functioning and stressed the need to enhance efficiency and productivity across all units. He directed officials to draft a holistic action plan focused on making the poultry sector self-sufficient, while positioning it as a key contributor to J&K’s economy.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to farmer welfare, the Minister said that ongoing sectoral reforms and targeted interventions would empower farmers, promote local production, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities across the Union Territory.
The construction of Layer House–II marks a significant leap forward in capacity building. The facility is designed to rear 1,900 parent stock birds and produce 1.70 lakh hatching eggs annually, substantially improving the availability of high-quality layer chicks for farmers and field units in the region. Officials noted that this expansion will help meet local demand and foster sustainable poultry production in J&K.
