Bareilly, Aug 14 — The Rampur district administration has imposed a 21-day ban on the sale and transport of eggs, chicken, and other poultry products after a confirmed outbreak of bird flu (Avian Influenza H5) at a poultry farm in Sehor village, where over 15,000 chickens have died.
District Magistrate Jogendra Singh, after an emergency meeting on Monday, ordered the closure of all chicken shops and eateries serving chicken for three weeks. The movement of poultry and related products within and outside the district has also been prohibited until further notice.
Authorities have sealed a 1-km radius around the affected farm and declared a 10-km surveillance zone. Control rooms have been set up at the district headquarters and Bilaspur tehsil to monitor the situation round-the-clock.
The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, confirmed the presence of the H5 virus after testing samples from Rampur on August 8. The findings were later verified by the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL), Bhopal on August 11.
At the Central Avian Research Institute (CARI), Izatnagar, precautionary measures have been intensified — entry of outsiders has been stopped, vehicles are parked outside the premises, and water sources are being covered to prevent wild birds from entering. Reflectors have also been installed in farm and research areas to deter birds.
The Uttar Pradesh Animal Husbandry Department has instructed veterinary officers to be on high alert, collect samples immediately in case of bird deaths, and strictly follow biosecurity protocols. While no positive cases have been found in Bareilly so far, its proximity to Rampur means preventive measures are already in place.
Eggora urges all poultry farmers in the region to step up biosecurity, restrict farm access, and report unusual bird mortality immediately to local authorities to help contain the outbreak.
