Chandigarh: In a step towards easing traffic snarls on the busy Poultry Farm Chowk to Zirakpur border stretch along NH-05, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has finally received three bids to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
This is the third attempt by the ministry, after the previous two rounds failed to attract sufficient interest. A senior UT official said, “In the two previous attempts, requisite bids were not received. Now, if the bidders meet the technical and financial requirements, one will be selected.”
The DPR will be crucial in mapping out solutions for the heavily congested 3-km stretch that connects Chandigarh with Zirakpur — a vital route not just for daily commuters but also for the transportation of poultry and other agri-produce moving in and out of the region.
Key features of the DPR will include:
- Identifying improvements to the existing alignment.
- Proposing bypass options around choke points.
- Evaluating alternatives based on technical, economic, and environmental factors.
- Recommending the most feasible solution for long-term decongestion.
Officials confirmed that the DPR is to be completed within seven months. For poultry farmers and traders who rely on smoother logistics, this development could mean faster transportation, reduced transit delays, and lower operational costs.
Better road connectivity around Poultry Farm Chowk is expected to directly benefit agri and poultry businesses in the Tricity and surrounding regions — a much-needed boost for the sector.
