Income Tax Raids on Leading Poultry Firms in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore: The Income Tax (I-T) department launched extensive searches on Tuesday at properties linked to two of Tamil Nadu’s leading poultry firms, raising suspicions of large-scale tax evasion in the sector.

More than 20 locations across Tiruppur, Erode, and Coimbatore districts came under scrutiny, with raids continuing late into the evening.

In Coimbatore, officials carried out searches at two prime locations, including the corporate office of a prominent poultry company based in Udumalpet, Tiruppur district. Parallel searches were also conducted at the firm’s headquarters in Udumalpet and offices in Erode.

A team of over 30 I-T officers, arriving in nine vehicles, split into groups to comb through offices on Avinashi Road and Racecourse Road in Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, in Namakkal, another poultry and egg business group also came under the I-T scanner. According to sources, documents, hard drives, and even old CDs were seized during the operation.

The poultry sector in Tamil Nadu, particularly in western districts like Namakkal and Tiruppur, has long been a hub for egg and chicken production, with companies from the region catering to both domestic and export markets. The outcome of these raids is expected to have significant implications for the industry.
